Zilch UK has become a bit of a mess, and many of my posts have been incorrect, especially regarding their new Zilch rewards cashback, where they say some merchants offer up to 5% cashback in reward points, but using your Zilch card for high street purchases will now only net you 0.5% cashback, and the same with Zilch Anywhere.
You’ll have to search for merchants on the Zilch UK app, and if your merchant is listed and you are buying online from them, you will earn between 2% to 5% cashback in Zilch reward points. The 5% merchants DO EXIST, but they are only the minority. Check out the merchants list here.
I was extremely disappointed several days ago when I visited Sainsbury’s, which is listed as a Zilch merchant, and was expecting to earn over 100 Zilch reward points, but only earned 26 points. Then I found out from Zilch itself that high street shop purchases now only pay 0.5% and not the previous 2%.
You would probably be better, and earn more, if you opened up a Virgin M Plus Account, which NOW offers 3% per month on your balance up to £1000. I’m not sure if the American Express Cashback Credit Card still offers 5% *yes they are) on all purchases during the first six months, but you’ll still need to spend a minimum £3,000 to be able to receive your cashback. There are always terms and conditions to read.
I will still purchase through Zilch UK, but it’s not much of an incentive to use tap and pay in the shops now when they only provide 0.5% cashback. I think I’ll switch to using cash instead, because Zilch are not providing enough incentive to use contactless.
